Looking to add GIS to your toolset? Perhaps join us for some field exercises? We have an assortment of courses. Course offerings include online and hybrid. Hybrid is partially online and in person (however you can opt to join via zoom). Registration is open for Spring semester 2023. New students can apply for admission and register for courses in these few easy steps. Here are the list of course offerings for Spring 2023.

Software is provided for enrolled students and if you prefer our high tech labs are accessible on campus for open lab Our labs is configured with all the latest software.
Rio Hondo College's GIS Program started in 2000 with over 350 students (many professionals) in attendance annually with 50 California state GIS Certificate of Achievement awarded in 2018 - 2019. The Associate Degree for GIS was started fall 2019. The CA state approved program offers online convenient scheduled courses at community college fees for working professionals. Classrooms, and curriculum are developed with input from local GIS industry leaders. Students can transfer courses to 4 year institutions. Several courses are offered in the fall and spring.
You can apply and register entirely online without visiting the campus. The high tech classroom is accessible for open lab. We are conveniently located in Whittier within view of downtown Los Angeles at the intersection of the 605 and 60 freeway.

What is GIS?
The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts GIS occupations will see growth rates ranging from 16% to 25% for GIS Mapping Technicians between 2010 & 2020. Geospatial technology (GST) includes geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing (RS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and surveying, and is taught in courses at the Rio Hondo College using curriculum guided by advisory boards and professionals in GIS for practical and applied users in most disciplines.
GIS is a horizontal technology as reflective of our students including LAPD, County Sheriff to local fire, Department of Health, Public Works, Parks and Recreation to Education, Assessor, Children Services and many local cities.
