Geospatial Programming and Web Services
Having some competence in programming and automation has become a critical requirement for many geospatial technician positions. This course teaches how to automate Geographic Information System (GIS) tasks using industry common scripting language used within GIS (Python, Model Builder, etc) using both the desktop and web services. Automation provides easier interface for wider audience of GIS, performs tasks faster, and more accurate. Most importantly, the knowledge of a scripting language such as python is a highly desired skill in GIS analysts. Upon completion, students will be able effectively perform programming fundamentals so that the skills learned can be applied, automated and adapted to various scripting languages including Python.
